Connecting the app: server address, API key & the certificate prompt

Getting connected takes about a minute:

  1. In TrueNAS, create an API key (user menu, top right → API Keys → Add). Copy it right away - it is only shown once.
  2. In NAS Guard open Settings → Connection, enter your server as https://192.168.x.x or truenas.local, paste the API key, and tap Test Connection.
  3. Done. The app connects over TrueNAS’s WebSocket API and starts showing live data.

About the certificate prompt: most TrueNAS boxes use a self-signed certificate, so on the first connect the app asks you to trust it and remembers (“pins”) its fingerprint. If you later get a “certificate changed” warning, the fingerprint no longer matches - expected after you install a new cert, but worth a look if you did not change anything.

Tip: you can save multiple servers and switch between them from the top bar.
